So, for the last couple weeks, I’ve been looking at phones and debating as to which one I want. My current phone the Palm Centro has become a little too small for me. And it’s really beat up and with the new Palm Pre and Pixi out, if something does go horribly wrong with my phone (which I see coming in the near future), I wouldn’t be able to get it fixed. So, I’ve taken it upon myself to shop around for new phones.
First off, AT&T’s website is not the easiest to navigate. But Verizon’s is way worse, so I’ll give them that…..Anyway, I looked around and finally found 2 phones in my price range!
To my surprise, the first thing I saw was an 8GB iPhone 3G! For $50! It was refurbished (of course) but I have a refurbished phone now and that doesn’t bother me at all!
Then, I found this lovely little device called the Blackberry Curve 8900. I loved the way it looked and it really appealed to me. I used to think Blackberries were boring, but this proved me wrong.
So, what to choose? This is when I turn to my Twitter folks and my Youtube phone reviewers. The majority of my Twitter folks voted for the iPhone. (Although there were a few members of #BlackberryNation).
Ok, so that’s iPhone- 1, Blackberry- .5?
Now to Youtube.
Over the years, I’ve developed a trust with certain websites/reviewers who I know will give me the best possible review and recommend the best possible product. My first resource was CNet. They were all for the iPhone, but being a business place, they prefered the Blackberry.
iPhone- 1, Blackberry- 1.5
Then, to Noah, the “PhoneDog”. He reviews all types of phones and does really good, thorough, entertaining reviews. He loved the Blackberry, but said as a personal phone, he would choose the iPhone.
iPhone- 2, Blackberry- 1.5
Now, to my next Youtube Reviewer, Jon4Lakers. He liked the Blackberry, but again, as with PhoneDog, he chose the iPhone as the best overall phone.
iPhone- 3, Blackberry- 1.5
And finally there’s Iobuffa. He didn’t review the Blackberry, but he reviewed the iPhone and loved it. Soooo….to give it the benefit of the doubt, I’ll give the Blackberry half a point.
iPhone- 3, Blackberry- 2
So, the Twitter suggestions are in. The Youtube reviews are in….but what about me? Which phone do I want?
Well…..let’s look at the options, shall we?
iPhone 3G
- Touchscreen
- Apps (With a Xylophone App)
- 8GB
- 3G Internet
- 2mp Camera (No video)
- Music (iTunes)
Blackberry
- QWERTY Keyboard (No Touchscreen)
- Apps (Not as many as the iPhone)
- EDGE Speed Internet
- 3.2mp Camera (With video)
- Music (Not iTunes)
- 256MB (With expandable memory)
So what do I really want? To be honest, I want the iPhone. But if I could combine the 2, I would. I want the expandable memory, 3.2mp Camera with video and the QWERTY keyboard of the Blackberry while maintaining the touchscreen and apps of the iPhone.
But I guess I’ll settle.
I’ll get used to the touchscreen and the crappy camera of the iPhone… I’m pretty sure I can do something to make it record video.
Now, I just have to wait until my mom’s credit card bill is paid (since the mail seemingly being delayed due to this stupid snowstorm) and she’ll order the iPhone for me! =D
